Rising star Dustin Milligan follows Courteney's Easter example

10:28 PM

9 APRIL 2009
Rising stars of teen drama 90210 and off-screen lovers Dustin Milligan and Jessica Stroup joined other kind-hearted celebs, including Courteney Cox-Arquette and her hubby David, for some seasonal Easter fun at a benefit on Wednesday.

Getting into the holiday spirit the 23-year-old Canadian and his actress-model girlfriend had their hands full with fluffy chicks and an egg they had transformed into a pink rabbit.

Courteney and David – both of whom are on the council of the event's organiser Feeding America – were also busy putting their artistic talents to use, their faces a picture of concentration as they decorated eggs.

Desperate Housewife Marcia Cross was enjoying the child-friendly Hollywood event, too, perching herself on the lap of a festive Easter bunny.

For every egg decorated by a celebrity on the day, a trailer full of eggs will be donated to a food bank.

'Stone cold single' Duffy asks for media help to find a boyfriend

10:23 PM

10 APRIL 2009
Duffy plans to put time off from her Grammy- and Brit-award-winning music career to good use: she intends to find a man. The bubbly Welsh songstress has a few months away from the recording studio and her priority - after getting some shut-eye - is to line up some dates.

"I'm stone cold single at the moment and it's not much fun I can tell you," she confided recently to the Daily Mirror at an awards ceremony, before apparently asking the paper's columnists to help her find a guy.

"I've been travelling and working so much over the last few years I haven't had time to sleep, never mind have a boyfriend," she added.

The 24-year-old - who despite having three Brits to her name has "only two cats for company" - is certain her Welsh accent is draw.

Should her appeal through the pages of the national media fail Duffy admits she's prepared to sign up for the dating site mysinglefriend.com.

A bionic kiss from Michelle Ryan for Timelord David

10:14 PM

10 APRIL 2009
Between fighting a half-fly/half-human race and battling deadly stingrays Dr Who star David Tennant has found time for a lingering kiss with co-star Michelle Ryan.

The romantic clinch came as he teamed up in an Easter special with the former EastEnder, who recently returned to the UK after appearing in American TV show Bionic Woman.

In the past his character has smooched Kylie Minogue, Billie Piper, Freema Agyeman and Jessica Hynes – each time guaranteeing a ratings hit for the BBC.

Indeed one insider joked, "Since David took over he's more Doctor Woo than Doctor Who."

In the Easter episode, entitled Planet Of The Dead, Michelle's catsuit-wearing character Lady Christina De Souza steals something important before trying to escape on a bus.

"London transport being what it is, it slips through a wormhole in time and space and ends up on a planet on the other side of the universe," explains David of the show, which can be seen on April 11.

Gisele Bundchen Talks Husband Tom Brady & Loving His Son Like Her Own

9:58 PM

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Supermodel Gisele Bundchen may now be happily married to New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady , but there was a time when she considered ending the relationship and sending him back to the arms of another woman.

Just a few months after the couple began dating, Brady learned his ex-girlfriend, Bridget Moynahan , was pregnant with his son, John. It was then that Gisele said she wondered whether it was worth sticking it out with the sports star.

"You question at times - 'Should I stay here? Maybe you should work this out,'" she told Vanity Fair's May issue. "But when people break up, it's for a reason."

Gisele, one of the most successful supermodels of all time, said that Bridget's pregnancy news actually ended up helping keep the couple together.

"I think it was a blessing, because otherwise I don't think I would have known what he was made of, and he wouldn't have known what I was made of," she told the magazine. "I wouldn't have seen the integrity in him - the way he was a good person through all the times. I was like, 'You have the heart in a good place!' It made me realize who he was. Our relationship has become so much stronger, and I think I wouldn't be as certain as I am today if it weren't for that."

Not only does she have a strong relationship with her new husband, but the Brazillian model admitted she has a heavy bond with his son as well.

Fashion and Glamour! The latest news of celebrity life

9:48 PM

Queen Latifah is reportedly being sued by her former fashion stylist and make-up artist.

According to Reuters, both are suing the actress for hundreds of thousands of dollars for their services over the past five years.

Cosmetics consultant Roxanna Floyd and fashion stylist Susan Moses are apparently suing the Grammy Award-winning singer for breach of contract, in two separate lawsuits filed yesterday.

Floyd has reportedly claimed that she is owed more than $700,000 for helping develop, produce and market Queen Latifah's cosmetic line for Covergirl, named the "Queen Collection".

Meanwhile, Moses has alleged she is owed more than $300,000 for advising Queen Latifah, real name Dana Owens, for her role as the spokeswoman and model for "Curvations," a lingerie line, which is solely aimed at the larger lady.

Both Floyd and Moses ended their working relationships with Queen Latifah in February 2008. A spokeswoman for the actress was not immediately available for comment, reports Reuters.

40 per cent of Australian women wear a bra with a cup size DD or bigger

9:33 PM

* Breasts of Aussie women getting larger
* 40 per cent of women DD or bigger
* Obesity, contraceptive pill to blame

THE bra market is expanding, literally. Up to 40 per cent of Australian women now buy bras with a cup size of DD or higher, new figures from lingerie suppliers show.

In the 1950s, the most common bra-cup size was a B - three sizes less than a DD.

Modern breasts are getting so large that some bra companies have introduced cup sizes as high as K, The Sunday Telegraph reports.

Experts blame the cleavage boost on obesity, contraceptive pills and artificial hormones.

Myer lingerie buyer Kerryn Sawyer said sales of DD-plus bras have grown from about 20 per cent of sales to 28 per cent in just five years.

Many lingerie labels such as Berlei and Triumph are now offering G cups while Fayreform, Freya and Le Mystere are producing select styles up to a size J.

Berlei brand manager Jane Edser said the company's range of bra styles, available in DD-plus, had, increased since 2005 from 75 per cent to 83 per cent, to cater for the growing market.

Running Tips

11:22 AM
#

If you are new to running be sure that you have been walking for 30 minutes at least 3 days a week about 3 months before you try to transition to running.
#

Do not bounce or overstride. Don't let your foot get ahead of your knee. Run from the hips down with the upper body straight up and used only for balance.
#

Breath in through your nose and out through pursed lips.
#

Choose shoes appropriate for running and that fit well -- they don't cause any discomfort or blisters.
#

When running in colder weather be sure to wear a hat. A large amount of heat can be lost through your head.
#

Replace your running shoes at least every 400-500 miles.

Holiday Tips

11:22 AM
* Create a plan ahead of time. Before the holidays sneak up on you, create a plan for incorporating fitness and good nutrition into your daily routine. Evaluate your holiday and then determine how much time you will realistically have available to devote to working out and/or eating healthy meals.
* Schedule your workouts. Mark them on the calendar and set-aside time to complete them. Consider them as important as any other appointment or event you have marked on your calendar.
* When at a party, start by eating some of the healthy offerings. For example, vegetable sticks (without dip), fruit pieces, plain chicken pieces, etc. Then move on to some of the less healthy (but yummy) offerings. You will be less likely to overindulge on these foods if you have already filled-up on some of the healthier items. Yet, you will not feel deprived or unsatisfied.
* Avoid wasting calories on alcoholic beverages. The average alcoholic drink contains 150-200 calories per glass. Indulge in just 2-3 drinks and you’ve drunk the equivalent calories of an entire meal. If you partake in these beverages, choose wisely. For example, instead of having a full glass of wine, try mixing half a glass of wine with sparkling water or with a diet cola. This will help cut your calories in half.
* When shopping, don't search for the closest parking space. Park far away and take advantage of the walk you get.
* Don’t put your fitness goals on hold until the New Year. If you can’t exercise as often during this time period as you normally do, adjust appropriately. Don’t use the excuse that since you don’t have time for your full workout you just won’t workout at all. Instead accept your limited availability and simply reduce the frequency and/or duration of your exercise. It’s much better to cut your fitness time in half than to completely eliminate it.
* On the day of a party, be sure to eat regularly all day long. If the party is in the evening, eat breakfast, lunch and a snack before hand (just as you would on any other day). Once you are at the party, go ahead and indulge in some of the fun, delicious foods. Since you have eaten meals earlier in the day, you probably will find that you aren’t tempted to go overboard and eat everything in sight. However, if you starve all day long attempting to save up all your calories for the party, you will be so famished by the time it begins that it will be difficult not to overeat.
* On days that you really lack motivation or simply do not have time for your complete exercise routine, commit to do just 10 minutes of exercise. You’ll probably end up doing more than that once you get started. Even if you only end up completing 10 minutes, that is still a lot better than zero minutes.
* When presented with a large variety of food options, it’s tempting to want to eat everything. Rather than eating one large slice of chocolate cake or a huge plate of meatballs, select a sampling of bite size pieces of several of the desert or appetizer offerings. This way you get the enjoyment of trying many different foods without overeating.
* Exercise at home. You’ll be more inclined to follow-through on your exercise commitment if you don’t have to drive somewhere to do your workout. Plus, you won’t waste any time on driving, parking, the locker room or waiting to use equipment. Working out at home requires very little equipment (even can be equipment-free) and is quite inexpensive.
* When running errands or shopping, be sure to pack some healthy snacks to have on-hand. Then after you work-up a big appetite, you won’t be tempted to grab something at the mall food court or the fast food restaurant on the way home.

Bridal Tips

* One of the most important things to remember if you are trying to lose weight is too start early. For example, don’t try to lose 20 pounds two months before the big day. The key is to plan ahead so that you can lose the weight (or just firm up) gradually.
* Be realistic with yourself. If you’ve never been a size 6 in your life, then it is probably unrealistic to think you can magically transform just because you are getting married. Set attainable goals.
* Brides typically are short on time and long on to-do lists. This leads many to try unhealthy fitness programs or starvation diets. Don’t be tempted by diets that promise quick, drastic results with little effort from you.
* It’s very easy for brides to say “I don’t have time to exercise” or “I’m too tired to exercise”. But diet and exercise should always go hand in hand. Without activity your body can’t burn as many calories. If you are very short on time, try to exercise in small 10-minute bursts throughout the day. And, keep in mind that little things help too, like taking the stairs or parking at the outer edge of the mall parking lot.
* Eat regularly -- don't skip meals. Not only is skipping meals unhealthy, it often leads to binge eating. That often means eating very fattening foods and/or overeating all at once. To avoid this try packing light snacks to keep on hand throughout the day. Good examples include carrot sticks, cheese strings, peanut butter on crackers, etc.

Misc Tips

11:22 AM
* Track your workouts. Keep a daily or weekly log to track all of your workouts so that you can ensure that you are progressing in the right direction and keeping your body challenged. Track such things as frequency, duration, intensity, weight sizes, sets, reps and how you felt during and after your workouts.
* Have back up plans for all of your workouts. For example, you may plan to workout for an hour after work by doing both cardio and strength training. Then your boss asks you to say late. Your workout time is now limited to 30 minutes. Know ahead of time exactly what workout you'll do in that shortened time period so that you don't waste precious workout time or worse decide to forego it all together.
* Avoid highly processed foods whenever possible. Stick to whole foods. Complex carbohydrates are fine, just avoid the over-processed, simply carbs.

Exercise & Workout Tips.

11:21 AM
* Replace your sneakers often. At least after every 250 - 500 miles of walking/running.
* Stair climbing is a low-impact alternative to running.
* Choose exercises that you enjoy doing. You'll be more inclined to stick with a fitness regimen when it includes things you like to do.
* Change your fitness routine every 4-6 weeks to prevent a workout plateau.
* Strive to include total body workouts. These include: cardiovascular exercises, strength training (both upper and lower body), core training and stretching/flexibility.
* Measure your exercise intensity. There are several methods: heart rate, rating of perceived exertion, talk test.
* Whenever possible, take the stairs instead of an elevator.
* Stretching and flexiblity are very important aspects of good physical fitness, so don't overlook them. Ideally, you should stretch before each workout (both cardio and resistance exercises) and after each workout. If you can't do both, then make the after stretching a priority.
* When stretching before a workout, it's best to stretch after you've gotten warmed-up for about 5 minutes (your muscles will be looser).
* When working out on cardio equipment (e.g. elliptical trainers), don't lean heavily on the handrails. This will reduce the amount of calories you burn.

Weight Loss & Diet Tips

11:21 AM
* Exercise is not enough. You must also include healthy eating habits.
* Make a list of all the benefits regular exercise provides you. Everything from feeling healthier, sleeping better, preventing depression, feeling stronger, etc. Post this list somewhere that you will easily see it everyday so that it can serve as a reminder why you should workout.
* Eat breakfast every day. People who eat breakfast consume fewer total calories during the day then those that don't.
* Don't waste your calories on drinks. Drink low-calorie or no calorie drinks instead (preferably water).
* Try to take at least 20 minutes to complete a meal. This is how long it takes for your brain to recognize that your stomach is full.
* Use a lot of spices and seasonings when cooking low-fat/low-calorie meals. They can make your meal taste so much better and therefore make you feel more satisfied.
* Decrease your caffeine intake. Too much caffeine can decrease the burning of stored fat.
* Consume at least 64 ounces of water per day, plus an additional 16 ounces for every hour of moderate-intensity exercise.
* Each day fill a container(s) with your daily water supply so you'll always know how much you've drank and ensure you drink the required daily amount.

Walking Tips

11:20 AM
* Bend your elbows. This will cause your arms to swing faster which in return will help your legs to move faster.
* Keep your stride short. Don't take long strides that feel awkward.
* Think heal-to-toe. Push-off with your heal. Toes should leave the ground last.
* Keep your abs pulled in and tight.
* Include interval training walks that include periods of very brisk walking followed by slower, recovery times.

Strength Training Tips

11:19 AM
*

Include some type of strength training in your weekly exercise regimen no matter what your fitness goals are. Resistance training provides many health benefits. Read articles that discuss the benefits further.
*

Don't take the all or nothing approach. It's better to do a little training than none at all. So, even if you can only fit one strength training routine in a week, you'll still benefit from it.
*

If you're a woman, don't be afraid of strength training. You won't bulk up (unless you are really trying to). And, resistance training is easy to start. With professional guidance and direction, you can quickly learn how to train properly.
*

Be sure you are training with the proper resistance size. Ideally, you should choose a size that fatigues you after 10-12 reps.
*

Focus on correct form. If you are unable to use proper, safe form when performing an exercise then you probably are using weights that are too heavy. Choose a size that allows you to train with correct form.
*

Concentrate on the muscle(s) you are working during a specific exercise and don't allow your other muscle groups to assist with the exercise.
*

How long you rest between sets is important. For building muscles and getting bulkier the rest time should be longer. For more muscle endurance and leaner, sculpted muscles the rest time should be shorter.
*

The frequency of your strength training depends on whether your goals are to get bigger and stronger (less often) or whether you want to get leaner and more defined muscles (more often).
*

Try the periodization technique which progress you every week over a 4-week timeframe. Try a plan of starting with lighter weights and more reps, and each week increasing the weight size appropriately and decreasing the number of reps.

Health and Physical Fitness

11:09 AM
Health and physical activity tips including information on men's and women's health and wellness including advanced nutritional products for the immune system, joint health, weight loss and general health. All five components of fitness and health: strength training, weight management, cardiovascular exercise, nutrition, and flexibility training are discussed in the Online Muscle Fitness section of the site.

Here are nine specific Total Health Fitness Tips:

Don’t Smoke - One of the main reasons why people decide not to give up smoking, and sadly, the reason why some people take it up is the effect smoking supposedly has on weight gain or loss. It is true that smoking has been associated with an increase in metabolism it is a drug!! However it is a dangerous, addictive drug and surely the tiny effect it has on your metabolism is outweighed by the huge risk of dying from lung cancer. Drink More Water - You can live three weeks without food, However you can only live for three days without fluid, just think 3 days and its all over, one could suggest that water is fairly important! Your body is anywhere between 60 and 70 percent fluid. The fluid in your body is responsible for helping to keep every system of your body in good working order, including all of your metabolic processes. De-hydrate and everything slows down. The fluid in your body will also ensure that you can move well and be active. If you start to dehydrate, your body’s ability to do basic activities will slow down and your ability to exercise effectively or even enjoy exercise will be reduced. You will feel tired, lethargic and will probably get a headache.

Eat A Variety Of Foods - For protection from the majority of illnesses such as heart disease and cancer you need a variety of foods that deliver that mix of nutrients and minerals. Aim to eat different colored fruits and vegetables. Try to eat a different food each month. Eat an apple a day as the apple pectin cleanses the body’s digestive system by removing toxins and therefore preventing degenerative health problems such as cancer.

Relax For 20 Minutes a Day - Relaxing for at least 20 minutes a day will go a long way to reduce blood pressure and your reactions to stress. Sit or lie somewhere comfortable, Breathe slowly in and out of the nostrils breathing deeply into your abdomen. Say HAM as you inhale and SA as you exhale. These suggestions are charged with positive energy and will help you control your emotions. Try once a day for fantastic results.

Floss Every Day - Flossing your teeth every day is the best way to prevent gum disease and protect your heart. Gum disease, which is left untreated, can lead to inflammatory reactions in the body that can trigger heart disease and stroke.

Drink More Tea - Try drinking more tea instead of coffee to help protect your body from damaging effects of free radicals. Tea is a rich source of antioxidants that play a big role in protecting against some cancers and cardiovascular disease.

Get Active - Aerobic activity not only burns calories but also increases your metabolism and can keep it elevated for several hours after a workout. You don’t need to spend hours each day on the treadmill or bike to reap the benefits. Exercising aerobically for as little as 20 minutes, three to five days a week will make a big difference. Extra movement throughout the day is also essential, take the stairs instead of the lift, lose the remote and move at every opportunity you can.

Get More Sleep - Lack of sleep changes your hormone levels and capacity to metabolize carbohydrates so less sleep = slower metabolism. Studies have revealed that deep sleep causes cell repair and cell growth, which will speed up the metabolism and burn calories. So aim to get at least eight hours sleep a night.

Eat More Protein - Protein stimulates the major brain chemical dopamine which keeps us alert, try chicken or tuna salads for lunch. Go for complex carbohydrates rather than white flour and sugar, as they will provide a sustained energy source as opposed to a quick hit. Another reason to leave simple carbohydrate out of the diet is that they have a negative effect on your skin and how it ages. The more sugar that is in the body the more you force a chemical reaction causing sugars to attach to proteins and this is very detrimental to your skin.........Details by http://www.healthybiz2000.com

A message from Dr. Koop on healthy weight and physical fitness

9:28 AM

"A survey conducted by Shape Up America! has revealed that child care responsibilities are interfering with the efforts of many families to get more exercise and at the same time we know many children are now overweight or obese. The solution is a commitment on the part of the entire family to spend more time together. I encourage you to choose activities you can do together and support and reward each other's efforts to be more active at home, at school, at work, and in your communities. I urge you to replace the use of food as a reward for good behavior and offer to take a walk with your child instead. The pleasure of your company is the best reward your child can receive and the best gift you can give."

In a critical tag bout on Raw in late 2008, it only took the quickest of instances for the Legend Killer to slip out of a Batista Bomb and execute a hellish RKO.

This, followed with Orton's equally lethal punt, was the last blow The Animal would endure before time away from the ring to recover.

The Road to The Grandest Stage of Them All commenced with extreme turbulence and agony for then-WWE Champion Randy Orton's WrestleMania XXIV challengers, Triple H and John Cena. At the contract signing between all three men, Orton grounded both Superstars with the RKO. (WATCH)

The Legend Killer would go on to successfully retain the gold at The Biggest Spectacle of Them All in a Triple Threat Match.

In a strange turn of events for two enemies, Randy Orton and John Cena found themselves required to work together against the entire Raw roster. While others would bend at the mere sight of roughly a dozen opposing Superstars, for the Legend Killer it just meant more opportunities to execute his patented attack.

While Lance Cade, Paul Burchill and Val Venis all succumbed to the RKO, it was a collaborative effort by Cena and Orton that laid Cody Rhodes to rest.

No popcorn was sold in Madison Square Garden during one nail-biter of a confrontation between Randy Orton and Jeff Hardy for the WWE Title at Royal Rumble 2008.

This war was too close to call until Hardy locked in for a Twist of Fate. Orton twisted back, however, right into a picture perfect RKO that put his foe's lights out......... details by http://www.wwe.com/superstars/raw/randyorton/rkode/.

Proving his ability to hit the RKO from just about any angle, at any given moment, Randy Orton materialized mid-ring, mid-West Coast Pop to drive Rey Mysterio mask-first into the mat on March 24, 2006

For a conniving multi-generational Superstar like Randy Orton, no legend (even an "immortal" one) is untouchable.

In the summer of 2006, Hulk Hogan made a rare appearance on Saturday Night's Main Event at the Legend Killer's request, unknowingly stumbling into a well spun scheme by his irreverent nemesis. The red and yellow succumbed to a unique "drive-by" RKO on the hood of his luxury sedan.

At the 2005 Survivor Series, Randy Orton confirmed that the bigger they are, the harder they fall ... to the RKO. Representing Team SmackDown against a squad of Raw counterparts, the Legend Killer leapt high to clinch a weakened Big Show's vast neck in his arms, bringing down 500 pounds of mass to the mat.

Orton later leveled Shawn Michaels with the same signature move to be the sole survivor of the 10-man bout

Perhaps one of the most resonant RKOs in the Legend Killer's initially budding career was exacted at WrestleMania XX. Naysayers thought Orton was finally going to flavor humility (which actually tasted like Mick Foley's sweatsock) at the 20-year celebration of the annual extravaganza. However, armed with arrogance and backed by Batista & Ric Flair, Orton pulled the trigger on a Socko-wielding Foley to secure the victory for Evolution....... In 2005, the Legend Killer focused his crosshairs on perhaps the greatest of legacies in WWE: Undertaker and his famed WrestleMania winning streak.

Coming within inches of spoiling The Phenom's running accomplishment, Randy Orton craftily slipped out of his opponent's chokeslam and clutched The Deadman's neck for a near deal-sealing RKO.........Details by http://www.wwe.com/superstars/raw/randyorton/rkode/

Andrew Strauss has been left out of England's preliminary squad for the ICC World Twenty20 tournament.

7:12 AM

The ECB named an initial 30-man party for the tournament, being held in England in June, with the squad being halved to a final 15 on May 1.

Besides the decision to leave out current Test and one-day skipper Strauss, the selectors have named five uncapped players.

Joe Denly (Kent), Eoin Morgan (Middlesex), Graham Napier (Essex), Adil Rashid (Yorkshire) and Chris Woakes (Warwickshire) are all in with a chance of making their England debuts after being named in the initial squad.

"Andrew Strauss had an outstanding tour of the West Indies during a difficult winter," said England national selector Geoff Miller.

Federico Macheda admitted his stoppage time winner on his Manchester United debut against Aston Villa at Old Trafford on Sunday was the stuff of dream

7:11 AM

The 17-year-old came off the bench as a 60th minute replacement for Nani and made it a day to remember when he turned and curled a shot past Brad Friedal to make it 3-2.

The Italian found himself on the bench with fellow striker Wayne Rooney missing out through suspension and when United found themselves 2-1 down in the second half Sir Alex Ferguson decided it was time to blood the youngster.

The former Lazio youth teamer joined the club in September 2007 and transferred his goalscoring form for the reserves - the frontman scored a hat-trick against Newcastle last week - into the first team.

The goal could yet prove to be decisive in the destination of the Premier League title with the three points sending the Red Devils back to the top of the table.

"I think this is the day of my dreams. It was my dream to have my debut and to score a goal like that. I very much enjoyed it," he told Sky Sports 1.

Macheda also revealed that Ferguson had just told him to go out and play his normal game just before he took to the field.

"(He said) just play simple as you know. Just go out and play," he added.

The youngster managed to share the moment with his family as he ran over to the corner flag to celebrate.

"I run to my dad and my family and I went to them and they were celebrating too," he explained.

Here's one for the books

6:51 AM

AN electronic book revolution could lighten the schoolbag load for pupils while leaving their parents' pockets feeling somewhat heavier.

School will never be quite the same again for the 18 first years at Caritas College, Ballyfermot, Dublin, selected for one of the world's first e-book classroom trials.

The ease with which the iPod generation has accepted the change was summed up by one pupil who described the new paperless approach to study as "deadly".

A single electronic device weighing less than half a kilo, and measuring about eight by six inches, has replaced more than 6kgs of schoolbooks as well as being pre-loaded with 50 classic novels.

The device, known as the iLiad, electronically stores the textbooks for six subjects. It may be used to write and retain notes as in a regular textbook and will download material from a computer, if the material is already in PDF form.

Caritas College was selected for the trial by educational book publishers Gill & McMillan because of existing links with the school.

Gill & McMillan sales and marketing director Peter Thew said one hurdle to its widespread adoption was that electronic books did not enjoy the same VAT-free status as printed books in Ireland.

But he argued the iLiad had the capacity to slash costs for parents because it eliminated printing or distribution costs -- savings which the publisher could pass on.

The iLiad uses technology known as e-ink, which makes it a very similar experience to reading ink on paper.

Potential

"We are very excited about its potential. Although we believe that the widespread adoption of e-readers is some time off, this project allows us to determine how well they work in the classroom, and how the pupils interact with them," said Mr Thew.

English teacher Tara Brady, who is leading the project at Caritas College, said the e-book was "tremendous".

She added: "In terms of time management it is very effective. Pupils are more likely to remember to bring one device than all of their books and you won't have three or four pupils turning up saying they haven't got the novel."

Myron Lieberman's latest book: "The Educational Morass"

6:47 AM
Anyone interested in education, public schools and educational reform would do well to study the works of Dr. Myron Lieberman. Any of his eighteen books, beginning with Education as a Profession in 1956 and his latest, The Educational Morass, recently published by Rowman & Littlefield, "is about the ineffectiveness of public education in the United States today and why it is unlikely to achieve significant improvement in the absence of heavy external pressure. The reason for these conclusions and what can be done about it are the core of this book." Any of his books could serve as the basis of a for-credit course. All eighteen of them constitute a major in education that may exceed any other single source. The following are some comments made about Lieberman and/or his book. The first is my own contribution:

Perhaps no one has the lengthy, in-depth and varied experience with public education of Myron Lieberman. His writing is pertinent, perceptive, provocative, persuasive and eminently readable. His unmatched experiences with, and knowledge of, teacher unions merits particular attention to that section of this volume. Some of his prior books were selected as outstanding education books in the years published. The Education Morass merits similar recognition.

Others include the following:

"Dr. Lieberman stands as good a chance as anyone presently on the scene in education to set in motion some of the reforms American K-12 education so badly needs." From the Foreword by J. Stanley Marshall, president, Florida State University, 1969-1976 and founding chairman, James Madison Institute, Florida.

"Mike Lieberman is one of the most deeply knowledgeable people in our country about the workings of education today. He analyzes that knowledge from a position of independence. He is a stubborn and fearless critic of the massive follies, both right and left, both Democrat and Republican, that plague us." Larry P. Arnn, president, Hillsdale College, Michigan.Details in this site (http://www.schoolreport.com/schoolreport/articles/Educational_Morass_8_07.htm.)

Biography

5:40 AM
One of Spain's foremost leading ladies of the 1990s, Penélope Cruz has managed to make her mark with international audiences as well. Born in Madrid on April 28, 1974, Cruz was one of three children of a merchant and a hairdresser. After years of intensive study in ballet and jazz, she broke into acting in 1992. That year, she had starring roles in Jamón Jamón and Belle Epoque, two very disparate films. The former cast her as the desperately poor daughter of a village prostitute, while the latter featured her as one of four lusty daughters of a wealthy man in pre-Franco Spain. Belle Epoque proved to be a huge success, winning nine Goya Awards (the Spanish equivalent of an Academy Award) and an Oscar for Best Foreign Film. Its success gave Cruz a dose of international recognition, and after starring in a number of Spanish films, she enhanced this recognition in 1997 with the Sundance entry Abre los Ojos (Open Your Eyes). That same year, she had a brief but memorable role in Pedro Almodóvar's Carne Trémula (Live Flesh).

In 1998, Cruz had her first starring role in an English-language film, playing Billy Crudup's Mexican-American love interest in Stephen Frears' The Hi-Lo Country. She had another go at English later that year in the Spanish-British romantic comedy Twice Upon a Yesterday, which cast her as a Spanish barmaid living in London. In 1999, she returned to Spain to collaborate once again with Almodóvar on Todo Sobre Mi Madre (All About My Mother), a wildly acclaimed film that premiered at Cannes that year.

The next two years would prove to be a critical turning point in both Cruz's personal and professional life, with increasingly visible roles in large-scale Hollywood productions as well as a developing relationship with one Tinseltown's most popular leading men. Gaining notice for her roles in All the Pretty Horses in 2000 and Blow the following year, it appeared as if Cruz's career had suddenly kicked into overdrive. After starring alongside Nicolas Cage in the underperforming Captain Corelli's Mandolin in 2001, Cruz dove back into familiar territory with director Cameron Crowe's remake of Abre los Ojos, Vanilla Sky (2001). Developing a close relationship with lead Tom Cruise as his much publicized breakup with Nicole Kidman drew to a close, the pair soon found themselves the center of considerable paparazzi attention as they became Hollywood's hottest new couple.

While "Cruz & Cruise" outlasted most celebrity couplings born on movie sets -- even generating wedding talk -- the duo went their separate ways in 2004. Perhaps not coincidentally, Cruz's career took a backseat to her paramour's while she was dating him; between 2001 and 2004, most of her roles were either minor ones in uncelebrated American indies (Waking Up in Reno, Masked and Anonymous, Noel) or meatier ones in foreign films that failed to gain traction in the States (Fanfan la Tulipe, Don't Move, Bandidas). Luckily, the actress rebounded with a performance thought by many critics to be the best of her career, when she re-teamed with one of her earliest champions, Pedro Almodóvar, for his nostalgic, bittersweet Volver in 2006. Warm, witty, and biting, Cruz's performance kept her name in the running for many year-end awards, even garnering her her first Oscar nomination for Best Actress.

In 2008, Cruz earned strong reviews for her work in Elegy, but it was her turn in Woody Allen's Vicky Cristina Barcelona that garnered her Best Supporting Actress nods from the Hollywood Foreign Press, the Screen Actors Guild, and the Academy. ~ Rebecca Flint Marx, All Movie Guide.(this details has been taken by http://www.answers.com/topic/penelope-cruz)

latest news about hollywood actress Penelope Cruz

5:37 AM
Born: 28 April 1974
Birthplace: Madrid, Spain
Best Known As: Sultry Spanish Oscar-winner for Vicky Cristina Barcelona

A sultry and sometimes playful Spanish actress, Penelope Cruz became famous internationally when she played the motion-sick heroine in the 2000 film Woman on Top. She was already a star in Spain: she had a major role in the Oscar-winning 1992 film Belle Epoque, then began a long association with Spanish director Pedro Almodovar. Her films with Almodovar include Live Flesh (1997), All About My Mother (1999) and Volver (2006). In Hollywood her most prominent roles have been in the westerns The Hi-Lo Country (1998) and All the Pretty Horses (with Matt Damon, 2000), the druglord drama Blow (with Johnny Depp, 2001), and Vanilla Sky (2001), in which she co-starred with her real-life boyfriend at the time, Tom Cruise. She won an Oscar as best supporting actress for her role as a fiery Spanish artist in Vicky Cristina Barcelona (2008, also starring Javier Bardem).

Cruz donated her salary from The Hi-Lo Country to Mother Teresa's charity... Cruz and Cruise dated from 2001 through 2004, when they announced through publicists that they were no longer a couple... Cruz is occasionally confused with the Mexican actress Salma Hayek.(this details has been taken by http://www.answers.com/topic/penelope-cruz)
